Annual Activities 2018
The 23rd National Conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, Bangladesh was successfully held inHotel City Inn, Khulna from 15-18 February 2018.It was attended by 175 participants including SNMB members, SNMB Associates, SNMBT members, accompanying persons, trade delegates as well as guests and volunteers. The inaugural session was on 16 February,2018.Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Vice Chancellor, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology graced the occasion as chief guest. Engr. Jafar Sadique, Chairman BAEC and Professor Dr Md. Abdul Ahad, Principal, Khulna Medical College, Khulna were present as special guests. Dr.Md Mosharruf Hossain, PMO, INMAS, Rajshahi received the prestigious “Young Scientist Award” this year. This year there were Dr Pushan Bharadwaj, Consultant, Dept of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Singapore General Hospital delivered informative lectures in the plenary sessions. The participants were immensely benefited from the lectures of plenary sessions addressed by renowned nuclear medicine specialists from abroad as well as local learned speakers.The participants also shared their scientific research works through proferred oral presentations. The AGM was held on 15 February,2018.The Gala dinner and vibrant cultural show arranged by the local organizer Prof Dr. Ashoke Kumar Paul took placein the Hotel City Inn. The raffle draw took place to add enjoyment and laughter.
After all the scientific activities on day 2, the participants boarded on ship Flamingo and Sail for the post conference tour in Sundarbans, the large mangrove forest which is one of the natural wonders of the world. The trip included visit to Dimer Char, Kotka and Kochikhali. The participants were mesmerized by the diverse beauty of the flora and fauna of the Sundarbans. The participants were neither lucky or unlucky to have a glimpse of the Royal Bengal Tiger. They had to be satisfied by seeing only the foot marks of the jungle king.
It was a pleasure for us to have whole-heartedly support and full cooperation from all to hold and make success this great event.
The 12th Congress of The World Federation of Nuclear Medicine & Biology 2018(WFNMB 2018) was on held on 20-24 April, 2018 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne, Australia. There were nine participants from Bangladesh. Prof Dr. Sanowar Hossain, Member Bio-Science received the best poster award in Paediatric category.The ANMB examination was held in Melbourne. Dr. Jasmine Ara Haque, CMO, NINMAS successfully received the FANMB certificate this year.
WFNMB Post Congress Symposium on “Prostate Cancer: PET and Theranostics”was held on 26-27 April, 2018 at CairnsConvention Centre, Queensland, Australia. There were 5 participants from Bangladesh.
Dr. AKM Fazlul Bari, PMO, NINMAS received bronze prize for the best poster award of AFSUMB (Asian Federarion of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)in Seoul, Korea on May 23-26 2018.
Nuclear Medicine leaders of Bangladesh and KOICA fellows have participated in an invited workshop on “Multidisciplinary Team Approach in Cancer Management” at Seoul, Korea under KOICA project of SNU and Asi@Connect project in July 2018.
Indonesian Society of Nuclear Medicine (ISNM) / Indonesian Society of Nuclear Medicine Biology (ISNMB) in collaboration with National Nuclear Energy Agency of Republic Indonesia (Batan) hold Annual Scientific Meeting 2018 of in Bandung – West Java from 14 to 16 September 2018 with topic: “Recent Update in Nuclear Medicine: Science, Technology and Its Application for Patient Management”. Prof. Raihan Hussain, President of SNMB participated in it and delivered an invited lecture.
IAEA Expert assisted National Training Program on “Clinical Application PET-CT & Pediatric Nuclear Medicine” was held at NINMAS from 1st to 5th October, 2018 under IAEA-TC Project BGD6027. Twenty-one participants from different Nuclear Medicine Institutes Center over the country participated in it.
First “Multidisciplinary Team” meeting at NINMAS on complicated cases of thyroid carcinoma on November 2019. Team included head neck surgeons, oncologists, endocrinologists, palliative medicine experts, pathologists, radiologists and nurses lead by nuclear medicine specialists. This team was formed inspired by attending workshop on “Multidisciplinary Team Approach in Cancer Management” at Seoul, Korea under KOICA project of SNU and Asi@Connect project in July 2018.
A seminar on “Dementia Care: Role of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) of Brain”was jointly organized by SNMB and National Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences, Dhaka on 14 November 2018.Prof. Dr. Md Rafiqul Islam, Chairman, Neurolgy, BSMMU, Dr. Jasmine Ara Haque and Dr. Nasreen Sultana from NINMAS were among the speakers.
International Symposium on Radiopharmaceutical Therapy was held at the Paasitorni Congress Center, Helsinki, Finland on November 18–20, 2018. Prof. Raihan Hussain, President of SNMB participated in it and delivered a lecture acted as session chair.
The national workshop “KOICA Workshop on Nuclear Medicine and Remote Seminar of Nuclear Science” was held at NINMAS from 9th to 12th December, 2018, under KOICA SNU Project: Infrastructure Strengthening Project of Nuclear Medicine in Bangladesh for Treatment of Non-communicable Disease/ 3years/ Tertiary Education/ Seoul National University.
