The 24th national conference and annual general meeting (AGM) of Society of Nuclear Medicine, Bangladesh (SNMB) was held on 22nd March 2019 at Hotel Royal Resort, Sonargaon, Narayanganj. About 200 delegates attended the daylong conference where a number of scientific papers were presented.
Arch. Yeafesh Osman, honorable minister, Ministry of Science and Technology was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony while Mr. Anwar Hossain, the Secretary of the ministry and Mr. Mahbubul Hoq, Chairman, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission were the special guests. The meeting was presided by Prof. Dr. Raihan Hussain, President of the Society.
In his address the honorable minister emphasis the nuclear medicine physicians and scientists for proper use of the facilities created by the present government and serve the people of the country with dedication. The secretary of the ministry said that the government has a plan to upgrade and expand the present nuclear medicine services. Prof. Dr. M. A. Karim, the past President of SNMB and former Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, in his speech urged for inclusion of nuclear medicine in the course curriculum of undergraduate medical students.
In the conference lifetime achievement awards were given to Prof. Selim M Ansari, Prof. Muhammad Abu Taher, Prof. Faisal Kabir and Prof. Shahana Afroz for their outstanding contribution in development and promotion of nuclear medicine in the country.
In the AGM a new Executive Committee headed by Prof. Raihan Hussain as President and Prof. Faria Nasreen as General Secretary was formed for the year 2019-2020.
